Well my friends, we’re solidly in the ‘dog days’ of summer now, so to cool off, what say we head to the beach? You might want to tread carefully, however, if you intend to go in the water. Rumor has it that the fish in these waters do more than just nibble at your toes—they bite them off, at the waist! Yes, it’s “Beach Creatures” month here in the Crypt, and we have a boatload full of the slippery and slimy sea creatures that haunt our collective nightmares. To lead us off, Senior Correspondent Bobbie reviews a movie so foul she needed Dramamine just to watch it, 1965’s BEACH GIRLS AND THE MONSTER! I’ll be looking at a very similar (but slightly better) movie, Del Tenney’s mish-mash of musical beach party and Horror genres, the 1964 “classic” HORROR OF PARTY BEACH. Then we go from the ridiculous to the sublime, as I review the most effective Horror Film in my experience, Steven Spielberg’s JAWS. I’m also reprinting one of the Unimonster’s best articles, Summer of the Shark, as I try to explain just why I have such a high opinion of this movie.
But that’s not all we have to offer this month. Recently, the Famous Monsters 2010 Convention was held in Indianapolis , and the Unimonster was there, soaking it all in, trying to stay current with all the latest in the world of Horror and Sci-Fi. As usual the Crypt’s official photographer, the Unimonster’s sister Cathy, was on hand to capture the sights and sounds of the convention, and you may thank her for the video and pictures that accompany my write-up of the Con.
All this, and much more, so read on, enjoy, and… STAY SCARY!
